The Wakinikona Hawaiian Club will celebrate its annual summer picnic on Sunday, August 21st at Angle Lake Park in SeaTac, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
All members and their ‘ohana are invited to attend.  This is an excellent chance to renew acquaintances and wala’au (talk story).  The club will be providing hot dogs with condiments, and baked beans.  Members are asked to bring their favorite pot luck item, a salad or dessert or other dish to complement what the club will be providing.  Members should bring their own drinks, though alcoholic beverages are not allowed in this city park.  Members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, musical instruments and lawn games for their keiki or mo’opuna.
Hopefully the warm weather will continue through August allowing those attending the option to swim or go boating.
As we’ve done in the past, we will have a short club meeting specifically to select a nominating committee to start forming a slate of candidates for club officers for the next three-year term, and to replace one of our three trustees.  All of our current officers will complete their 3rd year in office in December.  Additionally, Mike Sturrock is completing his third year as a trustee.  The nominating committee that we elect at the picnic will have about two months to find club members to serve as officers.  They will present their slate in either October or November, at which time members may also have nominations from the floor.  The election will occur at the very next monthly meeting so all will be done and ready to start the new term in January 2017.
Be sure you mark your calendar and invite your ‘ohana to come to the picnic with you.  This is the time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather before the Fall gets here and the kids get back to school.  We did not have a meeting in July so there is much to catch up on with your fellow club members.  See you at the picnic.
